Riskety Rekt

A game of world conquest that takes ninety seconds a day, runs for 14 nights in your Slack, and pays you in soldiers for doing push-ups.

Everybody moves at midnight. Nobody moves first.

Day 9 of an example season. The six players are made up — but the world, the borders and the way the ground was dealt are the real ones, and a season picks its board out of the same map. You would be Ada L., holding 6 of the 44 territories in play.
  1. 1Kazakhstan is yours, and 6 soldiers are sat on it. They do nothing there. Soldiers only matter where the line is.
  2. 2Afghanistan is not yours and it touches you. You can send everything but one soldier at it — and whatever you send is not home defending when they come the other way.
  3. 3Somebody has put 9 soldiers on North Korea. You can see that. What you cannot see is where they are pointed, and you will find out at the same moment everyone else does.

One tick a day

You are never waiting for your turn, because there are no turns.

  1. All dayTap your territories, plan deploys, moves and attacks. Change your mind as often as you like. Nothing you save has happened yet.
  2. Midnight EasternEverything locks and everyone's orders resolve at the same instant. There is no turn order, no first-mover advantage, and no reward for submitting late.
  3. OvernightThe bot posts what happened. You open the board next morning to a replay of the night and a new set of decisions.

You never see anyone else's plan and they never see yours. Everything you know about tonight, you inferred from the map — and from what people were willing to say out loud in the channel.

Push-ups are currency

The soldiers come from somewhere. That somewhere is you, doing something, and proving it.

Two 👍from other players is the whole approval process. Your own reaction never counts.

Your war chest is also a betting account

Every morning the bot posts real prediction-market questions with real odds. You can put soldiers on them.

Today's slate reserve 14

Will the Fed cut rates at the September meeting?

Yes 62¢ · No 38¢ · closes 14:00

YESNO stake 6 wins 10

Will it rain in Central Park on Thursday?

Yes 21¢ · No 79¢ · closes 20:00

YESNO not staked

The wagers sheet, over the board.

Here is the tension, and it is the best thing in the game: a stake and a soldier come out of the same pot. Six soldiers on the Fed is six soldiers not standing on your border tonight. Win and you are further ahead than any amount of conquering would have got you. Lose and you spent your army on an interest rate.

One wager per market — backing both sides would be free money, so it is not allowed. And a wager is priced the moment you place it, not at the tick, so there is no waiting until the answer is obvious.

You vote on the rules. Daily.

Every morning the bot offers three rules from the catalogue. Whichever wins applies tonight, and tonight only.

Tonight’s rule — vote by midnight

1️⃣ Log Off — No attacks land today. Moves and deploys still run. Go outside.
2️⃣ Eat the Rich — Everyone except the leader gains 2 troops. The leader gains perspective.
3️⃣ Leg Day — Attacks cost one extra troop today. Feel the burn.

Change your mind whenever you like — your latest reaction is the one that counts.

Which is how a quiet evening becomes a bloodbath because four people decided it should be, and how the player in last place gets a say in the shape of the night. If nobody votes, nothing changes.

Nobody is ever quite out

Lose your last territory and you can still shield one territory a day from attack — anyone's, including the person who took you out. But only on a day you posted a workout. Showing up is the price of a say in how it ends.

After 14 nights, whoever holds the most ground wins, and somebody is insufferable about it until the next season.

Getting in

Join the Slack channel, then run /login. If the next season hasn't been dealt yet, that one command adds you to the roster and sends you your link in the same breath. No forms, and nobody to ask.

The link is good for ten minutes and works once. Run /login as often as you like — your last 5 links all keep working, so asking for a new one never breaks the one you were about to tap.

Once a season starts, that door closes. The board is sized and handed out the moment it begins, so a seat added on day 6 owns no ground and earns no income — permanently. After that, joining means asking whoever runs the season, and the reply to /login tells you exactly what to send them. Which is the real reason to get in before it starts.

Don't like the name Slack gave you? /name Something Else, or change it straight from the board. That one has no deadline.
